OSTEOPATHY.

Sandringham Sports Physio is a multidisciplinary clinic which includes Osteopathy. Osteopaths are primary health care professionals, trained in treating a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions. Osteopathy is a patient-centred approach which aims to diagnose and treat the abnormal function of the neuromusculoskeletal system (nerves, muscles and joints). This is achieved by combining a highly developed sense of palpatory (hands-on) awareness with an understanding of the detailed interconnections of between the body systems.

IS OSTEOPATHY FOR YOU?

Many patients ask what is the difference between a Physiotherapist, Chiropractor and Osteopath. This is a difficult question to answer, as Osteopathic practice is complex and multi-layered. Primarily though, Osteopaths seek to prevent injury / restore and promote health through the application of various manual therapies  as well as incorporating health education interventions and exercise-based rehabilitation programs in a similar fashion to Physiotherapists.

Osteopathic healthcare is unique only in the application of its holistic philosophy. The Osteopathic philosophy emphasises the following principles:

  • The body possesses self-healing abilities
  • The muscles and joints are interconnected
  • The neuromuscularskeletal system significantly influences the health of the individual
