Are there any risks?
Cupping is very safe and risks are minimal. It typically leaves local bruises over the region treated. The degree of bruising varies according to the degree of suction used, length of treatment and tightness of local tissues. The bruises are usually pain free and many patients are unaware of them.
What does the research say?
The research to date is very limited and most benefits are observed.
There is some research showing cupping beneficial for treatment of neck degeneration and various pain conditions. No serious side effects are reported in the literature from cupping.
